Want a Better Wax?

Clients tell me they like knowing exactly what to do.
This takes out the guesswork.
Follow this and your wax will be smoother, faster, and more comfortable.

Everyday Routine

This is where good waxes start.
Not the night before.
START At least one week before but you’ll get better results if you are consistent.

  • Drink your water. Yes, actually drink it.

  • Moisturize the area daily. Dry skin = angry wax.

  • Clean all folds and creases in the shower.

  • Exfoliate daily using:

    • Scrub glove

    • Bushbalm Toner Pads

    • Bushbalm Sugar Scrub

Dark spots: Use Bushbalm After Dark Brightening Gel daily
Ingrowns: Use Toner Pads & or  Roller Rescue

2 Days Before

This is where people overdo it.
Please don’t.

  • Stop exfoliating

  • Drink lots of water

  • Use Bushbalm oil after each shower

Day of Your Wax

This matters more than you think.

  • No caffeine or alcohol

  • Shower before your appointment

  • Clean every nook and cranny

  • Do not trim — I’ve got this

  • Take an Advil if you’d like

  • Wear loose, comfy clothes

Right Before Your Appointment

Small things make a big difference.

  • Use the washroom

  • Use wipes if needed

  • Be on time — calm = less pain

After Your Wax

Wax day = chill day

  • No workouts or sweating

  • No sex or friction

  • No hot tubs, baths, or pools

  • Loose clothing only

The Day After

Gentle care only.

  • Cleanse gently

  • Moisturize

  • No exfoliation yet

3–5 Days After

This is how we prevent ingrowns.

  • Start gentle exfoliation again and any other treatments

  • Moisturize daily

  • Use Bushbalm oil daily

Important Bushbalm Tips

  • More product ≠ faster results

  • Dark spots take time

  • Consistency always wins

Contraindications to waxing

Contraindications to waxing- This is a must read for anyone interested in getting a bikini or brazilian wax at Brazilian Wax Regina.

CONTRAINDICATIONS to waxing:

Contraindications that PREVENT waxing: Waxing should not be done while using these medications or treating these conditions, and not until three months after completing the treatment or as recommended by your physician. Please contact your esthetician for a consultation before booking an appointment.

Contagious skin diseases
Retin A., AHAs or skin peeling treatments
Thin or fragile skin
Use of steroid medication
Sunburn or rash
Accutane (Acne medication) – You must be off this medication treatment course a minimum of one (1) year prior to waxing
Tanning 24 hours prior to appointment

The following factors are known to make those who are waxed more prone to “skin lifting,” where the top layer of skin is torn away during waxing treatment:

Using Tretinoin, Tazarotene, Adapalene, Azelex, or any other peeling agent;
Taking blood-thinning medications;
Taking drugs for autoimmune diseases, including lupus;
Taking prednisone or steroids;
Psoriasis, eczema, or other chronic skin diseases;
Recent sunburn;
Recent cosmetic or reconstructive surgery;
Recent laser skin treatment;
Severe varicose leg veins;
Rosacea or very sensitive skin;
History of fever blisters or cold sores (waxing can cause a flare-up);
Using hydroquinone;
Recent surgical peel, microdermabrasion or chemical peel using glycolic, alpha hydroxy, salicylic acid, or other acid-based products
Allergies to some oils and fragrances
Dry skin
Dehydration

Some over-the-counter anti-ageing creams.

Brazilian wax etiquette

I get a lot of questions about Brazilian wax etiquette.  If you have never been for waxing services or don’t know anyone who has, you might have some questions about how you should prepare.

Here are a few Brazilian wax etiquette tips:

Make sure you know exactly where you are going

•Make sure you know the address you are going to.  Many people neglect to check this and then, 20 minutes before their appointment, realize that they aren’t going where they thought they were and arrive late.

Arrive 10 minutes early for your wax

Read over the information on the website about some specifics that some waxers request you show up 10 minutes before your appointment.

Read over spa policy

•Read over the spa or salon policies’. Familiarize yourself with the late policy and cancellation policy.

A credit card deposit may be required to book your wax

•When booking your appointment, they may ask you to leave a credit card number or a deposit.  This is now standard practice to ensure that clients will show up to their appointments.

There may be an online consultation form

•Many places now offer consultation forms online for you to fill out beforehand. Do this to ensure you know about any contraindications or reactions you might have to waxing.

(

•Usually, before you get a wax, most estheticians require 3-4 weeks hair growth.  Some may also ask you to trim or not to trim. This information should be on the esthetician’s website. I do not require it.

Exfoliate before your wax

•It’s best to exfoliate the areas every other day with a scrub mitt (←we recommend this one)and body wash to make sure all the hairs have come to the surface and to release any ingrown hairs.  Moisturize with an unscented lotion every day. Clean, healthy skin gets the best results.

Shower before your wax appointment

•If you can, shower right before your wax, but sometimes you can’t always do that.  Ensure you are clean (front and back) using wet paper towels, baby wipes or feminine wipes. <- This one is made specifically for women and is safe in the vulva area.

You can still get waxed if you have your period

•Most estheticians or waxers will still wax you if you have your period.  But double-check with them first. You can wear a diva cup or fresh tampon and tuck the string as far in as possible.  Make sure you mention to the waxer that you have your period.

You may apply numbing cream before your wax

•If you have numbing cream, you can apply this usually 1 hour before.  Check the manufacturer’s instructions about the requirements. Again, let the waxer know that you have numbing cream on.

Wear loose fitting clothes after your wax

•If you tend to “run a little warm,” wear loose-fitting clothing and a tank top. The warmer your body temperature, the harder it is for the wax to set up properly.

•When you enter the room, the waxer asks you to undress.  Most prefer if you don’t wear any panties (they will see your bits, anyway, right?) Ask your esthetician where she would like you to place your clothes.  (Don’t leave them on the floor or in front of the bed for them to pick up). Also, avoid putting on the panties you came in.  If you can, go commando or put a fresh pair on.

After your wax

When your wax service is completed, you can get dressed and talk about aftercare requirements.

Discus aftercare with your esthetician

Your esthetician will guide you through the wax.  It will be a lot easier and less painful than you think.  Your esthetician sees more naked women than most doctors, so try to relax and not worry about that part.

As a professional waxer for over 15 years, I have seen every type of lady bit (and man bits).  Nothing surprises me. If I seem to be studying the area, it’s because I want to look closely at hair growth patterns so you get the best wax results.

If you have questions, this is a good time to ask them.

Waxing is a service, and if you think your waxer did a good job, then let her know with a gratuity.  The average now is 15-20%. Another thing people don’t know about is that most small businesses have to pay credit card fees when a client uses their credit card.  Consider bringing cash to help keep the salon’s costs low if possible.

Going into a waxing salon can be a nerve-racking experience.  Hopefully, this will give you more confidence to get your first wax!

Pre/Post Care for waxing

Pre/post waxing care from Brazilian Wax Regina

PreWax Care Bikini/Brazilian Wax

Pre and post-wax care are just as important as the waxing itself.

The right prep helps ensure a smooth, effective wax with less irritation, while proper aftercare soothes the skin and prevents issues like ingrown hairs. Skipping these steps can lead to redness, breakouts, and discomfort—things no one wants after a wax! In this post, we’ll break down why pre- and post-care matter and how to get the best results from every wax.

Hair Length: Your hair should be at least ¼ inch long for effective waxing. ✂ I can trim if needed. If you want to trim a bit with scissors, that’s ok. Just don’t get too close to the skin!

Cleanliness: Make sure you are extra clean front & back right before your appointment. A shower right before your appointment opens up the hair follicles. But if you can’t, I recommend Bushbalm wipes<– This one is made specifically for pubic areas for women. They are great to carry in your purse. Perfect for those long plane rides! I also carry them in the shop!

Scrub: Exfoliate (scrub the area with a scrub brush, face cloth or body scrub), cleanse and moisturize daily. I give all of my clients free exfoliation gloves!

Ingrown hair oil

Pain: Consider taking an over-the-counter pain reliever like ibuprofen about 30 minutes before your appointment to reduce discomfort. Things that will make you more sensitive to your wax include tiredness, being close to your cycle, pregnancy, hangovers, and too much caffeine. Try Numbing cream!

Avoid the sun: No tanning or prolonged sun exposure at least 24 hours before your appointment, as sunburned skin is more sensitive and prone to irritation.

Skin Sensitivity: Let me know if you have any allergies or skin sensitivities, or if you’re using products like retinoids or acne medication that might affect your skin.

Post-Waxing Care:

Avoid Heat and Friction: Stay away from hot showers, saunas, or steam rooms for at least 24-48 hours. Skip exercise or activities that cause heavy sweating for the first day. ( if you absolutely must do one of these, make sure you shower right after.

Keep the Area Clean: Wash the area gently with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser.

Underwear: For the next few days, don’t wear tight panties. Try to wear all cotton without lace.

Soothe the Skin: Apply a post-wax soothing serum to calm redness and inflammation. Avoid products with alcohol, fragrances, or strong chemicals. I highly recommend the Canadian Company Bushbalm.

Exfoliate (After a Few Days): Lightly exfoliate daily.

Moisturize Regularly: Keep the area hydrated with a light, non-comedogenic lotion or oil.

Avoid Irritants: Skip tanning beds, sunbathing, or applying self-tanners for at least 48 hours. Refrain from swimming in pools, hot tubs, lakes, or the ocean for ⏰ 24-48 hours to avoid irritation or infection.

Hands Off: ☝Don’t touch, scratch, or pick at the area, as this can bring bacteria and cause ingrown hairs.

Stay Consistent: Book your next wax appointment 4-6 weeks later for the best results. Regular waxing weakens hair growth, making future sessions easier and less painful.

Pro Tip: If you notice persistent redness, irritation, or bumps, consult your esthetician for advice or consider using a product designed for ingrown hair prevention.   <- Ingrown hair treatments that work blog post.

FAQ about waxing

→How long will the area be red?

It should go away within a couple of hours; however, clients with sensitive skin may notice it takes up to a day. You can use a soothing cream to help get rid of the redness.

→How long will the results last?

First-time clients will notice the regrowth typically from 2 to 3 weeks. When you start to wax regularly on a schedule, the length of time between waxes will get longer, generally four to six weeks. After your fourth or fifth visit at 4-5 week regular intervals, all your hair will be in the same hair growth cycle and will be a good waxable length at the same time. After further appointments, You will start seeing the same effect as regular waxers.

→How can I prevent the pain?

The least painful time to wax is 5-14  days after your period. Do not drink coffee or alcohol before your waxing appointment. Take an ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment. Or apply a numbing spray or cream before your appointment.

How can I prevent ingrown hairs?

Follow pre-care and post-care! or check out this whole blog post Ingrown hair treatments that work

Will it hurt less the second time?

Yes, because the hair is growing back as new hair, it is softer and thinner and has a smaller root bulb.

This is the best ingrown hair oil

Can I get waxed if I have hemorrhoids?

YES.  90% of my clients have hemorrhoids.

How often should I get a Brazilian wax?

In the first six months, I recommend every 4 weeks. After that, every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on your hair growth. If you turn out to be a “holiday waxer”  that’s cool too.  To get the best results, you should start a regular regime but you should come at least 2-3 times before your vacation or big day.

Can I be waxed when pregnant?

Yes. There are no restrictions on waxing when pregnant, and I have lots of experience waxing pregnant women.  You can come right up to your due date.  BUT.  It will be more painful. I do not recommend getting your very first wax while pregnant.

→Can I wax during my period?

Yes. Use a fresh tampon (cut or tuck string)  or diva cup and be “hygienically present” before your appointment. Please also mention it to me.  Almost every single day I wax someone on their period.  It does not bother me.  But I get it.

What is blood spotting?

Hairs in the anagen (growing) stage of the hair growth cycle are supplied by tiny blood vessels. When an Anagen hair is forcibly removed by waxing, a small amount of blood tiny drops) may travel up through the channel in the skin where it was previously. You probably won’t event notice.

Can I shave in between appointments if I have to?

You can, but it screws up growth cycles a bit, and your next wax will be much more painful. (Do what you have to do.  I know last-minute trips to the pool come up.)

Why do you use so many different types of wax?

Different types of hair need different types of wax.

→Is sugaring better than waxing?

NO! With each method, you pull the hair out by the roots. The difference is that most wax is oil-soluble, and most sugar is water-soluble. It’s a different technique with a different product. Like hair stylists, we use different products and procedures to remove hair.

How can I get the best waxing results?

In the days leading up to your appointment, Moisturize and exfoliate! Follow Pre/ Post care instructions.

Do I have to trim before I come?

You don’t need to.

Post-Wax Reactions – What’s Normal and What to Expect

Why is my skin red or warm after waxing?

This is totally normal!
Waxing removes hair from the root, which can leave the skin red or sensitive for a few hours to a day. A cool compress or fragrance-free lotion can help soothe the area.

Why am I getting little white bumps or breakouts?

You may be experiencing folliculitis, which is inflammation of the hair follicle.
This happens when sweat or bacteria enters freshly waxed skin. Wear loose clothing and avoid workouts, pools, or hot tubs for 24 hours. I also recommend a post-wax serum with tea tree oil.

What causes ingrown hairs?

As the hair grows back, it can sometimes curl under the skin and get trapped.
To prevent this, exfoliate gently 2–3 times per week and use an ingrown hair treatment if you’re prone to them.

Why is my skin itchy or dry after waxing?

This can happen as the skin adjusts.
Use a fragrance-free moisturizer to keep the area hydrated. Avoid scented products, hot baths, or anything that could irritate the skin for 24–48 hours.

What are these dark spots or patches?

That’s called hyperpigmentation. It can happen if the skin gets inflamed or is repeatedly waxed without proper aftercare.
Use sunscreen and stick to your aftercare routine. If you’re concerned, ask me about brightening options.

I bruised—should I be worried?

Bruising is rare but can happen, especially on sensitive areas like the bikini line.
It may be due to thin skin, medications, or not enough skin support during the service. It usually goes away on its own.

Why does my skin feel raw or look shiny?

You may have experienced skin lifting, where the top layer of skin comes off with the wax.
This can be caused by sensitive skin, medication, or exfoliating too close to your appointment. Keep the area clean and apply a healing balm like Polysporin. Contact me if you’re unsure what to use.

What if I get a rash or reaction?

Some clients may be sensitive to certain waxes or products.
Please let me know if you have allergies or have reacted in the past. I use high-quality, professional wax suited for sensitive skin, and I can adjust your aftercare as needed.

Brazilian Wax Procedure

Brazilian wax procedure

This is a blog post about my general Brazilian wax procedure. Although each Waxpert has his or her own technique, you will find that it is pretty similar to this.

I am one of those people who have to google everything about a service/business to step out of my comfort zone and try something new.  I hope this helps you feel more comfortable at your appointment.

This is me. (Tania) Sometimes I forget to introduce myself. I love my job because I learn about various occupations, hopes, and life plans and be a part of my client’s lives. I have been doing this for over 15 years, so trust me when I say I have seen everything and heard everything.  You are safe in my space to laugh or even cry.

So here is what you need to know about coming to your appointment with me:

✅Read over contraindications (especially if you have changed any medications since you first started seeing me). You would be surprised how many medications affect your skin!  If in doubt, email me, and I can help you.

Please have at least 3 weeks of hair growth after you shave.  Don’t trim too much!!

✅Make sure you are going to get the best waxing results with pre/post-care.

There is plenty of street parking on both sides of the street, so don’t risk getting a ticket in the Safeway parking lot.

Be prepared to pay with cash or e-transfer.  I do accept credit cards but try to as little as possible because of the fees associated with it.  If you wish to tip on your credit card, please tell me before I ring you through. You can pre-add me or transfer to taniarice@sasktel.net

⏰Please arrive on time.  If you are late, I may have to shorten your appointment.

Use the washroom before your appointment time.  There is one to the right of the desk next to the washer and dryer.

⛔Please don’t bring a friend! It makes it incredibly awkward to move around the room and try not to bump into them.

If the door is shut, you can wait in the waiting room to the right up a couple of steps.  This is a common area for other businesses, so don’t be surprised if you run into someone else.

When I call you in, be prepared to answer a few questions as I take notes on the computer. While doing this, you can get ready for your wax.

There is a basket to place your belongings in.  You are welcome to keep your phone with you.

The best brazilian waxer in Regina Saskatchewan

There is also a table of wipes, foot spray, candy, etc, if you want to freshen up before we start. If I spray your feet, don’t be offended.  They are going to be 2 inches from my face at one point. So…

You will be asked to remove your pants and underwear and lie on the bed. I will give you an emotional support towel if you’d like.   Some people use it for gripping onto.

Are you sweaty? Ask for a sheet.  I have a vinyl-covered bed and some find they get sweaty.

So that you know, I do not leave the room.

It is not a quiet appointment.  Music is happening, and I can talk for 3 hours without stopping. I’m going to do my best to make you comfortable!

All first-time clients will get numbing cream. You can also add it to your appointment as an extra.

You will be directed to move into various positions for me to reach all the hair. I can get you into all kinds of positions, so don’t worry if you can’t do these.

Don’t worry if you have some pain.  That is normal, especially for your first wax.  Any time you pull any hair out of the root, regardless of method or product usage, it will hurt.

Also, so that you know your labia is normal looking. I have never been shocked by anyone’s genitalia and have seen 1000s.

Do you have a ring down there? I can work around it.

Do you have your period?  Cool. Put a tampon or diva cup in, and make sure to mention it to me.  Just so you know, it’s usually more painful when you come on your period. And if you are not comfortable coming, email me or cancel your appointment online.

Are you nine months pregnant? No prob.  If your water breaks on the table, you pay double; also, if you go into labour, please ask your partner to call or email and let me know you won’t make it.

Scared I will see your hemorrhoids? Guess what, almost everyone has them. No big deal

Think you will chicken out after the first couple of strips?  That’s fine.  No one ever does.  (except 3 men)

The best brazilian waxer in Regina Saskatchewan

The wax I use is very different than what most Estheticians use. It’s a higher-end wax from Europe.  I use a combination of hard wax ( it is applied to the skin, shrinks around the hairs and then gets pulled off) and soft wax ( it is applied to the skin, and a piece of cloth is put on it, and it is pulled off the skin)

You will NOT be asked to get on all 4s. Enough said.

Let’s talk about the bum. You will get your bum waxed.  Everyone does. Why would you leave the hair there and wax everything else? If you have hemorrhoids like 97% of my regulars, I’ll work around it. This is included in the price.

Once you are done, you will get dressed and be given aftercare instructions.  I recommend bringing a clean pair of panties to go home in.

Also, you’ll pay me now 😉

If you are satisfied with your wax and feel like I did a good job, please leave a review online. Google If you are not satisfied please let me know.  I am human and try to do my absolute best every time. But no one is perfect.

Do you still have more questions? Read this FAQ

I have been doing this for 15 years.  I specialize in Brazilian waxing and do it all day, every day.  Feel free to contact me to ask me any questions. The easiest way to get a hold of me is to email: taniarice@sasktel.net

Ingrown hairs are caused by a lack of natural exfoliation in the skin.  When you pull the hair out by the root, a new, thinner hair tries to pop out.  The cells in the follicle will build up if your skin does not exfoliate itself.  That creates a barrier so the new skin curls up instead of being able to poke through.

Prevention is the best treatment for ingrowns

Prevent ingrown hairs

To prevent ingrown hairs from starting before waxing, sugaring or shaving, follow these rules:

⇒Don’t wear tight panties, pants or leggings for the next few days.

⇒Keep hands away from touching freshly waxed skin, which can encourage irritation or small pimples.

⇒Opt for a shower. Don’t take a hot bath or hot tub for the rest of the day.

⇒No tanning beds, saunas or steam rooms for the next two days.

⇒Short-term abstinence. Sexual activity should be avoided for at least 24 – 48 hours.

⇒Use a specialized moisturizer daily

Exfoliation is key to preventing ingrown hair

Prevent and treat ingrown hairs

Exfoliation

Exfoliation gloves and scrubs are essential tools for preventing ingrown hairs.

Regular exfoliation removes dead skin cells, which can block hair follicles and cause hairs to grow back into the skin. By gently scrubbing the skin with exfoliation gloves or scrub, you keep the pores clear, allowing hair to grow out freely.

This routine also smooths the skin, making it easier for hair to break through the surface without getting trapped, reducing the chances of ingrown hairs.

When Exfoliation is not enough, and you still get bumps

Ingrown hair serums

Before buying anything, try using the first aid cream in your bathroom. You might be surprised at how well it works!

If that doesn’t work, then you need to move on to adding a serum to your daily routine.  This is a list of my favourite serums!

Choose the one that best suits your body or lifestyle. They are all formulated for ingrown hairs, razor burns, bumps, and skin irritation resulting from shaving, waxing, electrolysis, and laser hair removal.

Yes, you need to moisturize down there.

Moisturize

Let me start by saying that when you wash or put lotion on in your pubic area, It should only be used externally!

Yes, you can get dry skin in that area.  You need to keep it hydrated and healthy.

“What exactly is a scar”?

When you injure your skin, your body naturally repairs the damage. How your body repairs this damage depends on how deeply the injury penetrates your skin. In this article, you will learn how to get rid of Scars from ingrown hair.

If the injury damages the top layer of your skin, you’ll likely see new skin when the wound heals. To repair the damage that goes deeper than the first layer, your body makes a tissue that’s thicker than your skin. This thicker tissue often becomes a scar.

New scars have a pink to reddish colour. As a scar matures, it often turns lighter or darker than your skin.

Most scars are flat, and the skin on top trends to look wrinkled.” American Academy of Dermatology

HOW TO GET RID OF SCARS FROM INGROWN HAIR

Many of us who are plagued by ingrown hairs often see the end results for years.   They can be unsightly and embarrassing.  So how do you get rid of them?

Stop this:

Chances are you got the scar from picking an ingrown hair bump or scab too much.  Stop doing this!!!  I know its easier said than done.  So start preventing ingrown before they even get to the stage where you want to pick at them!

Start with prevention.

The best way to prevent ingrown hairs is to determine whether shaving or waxing irritates the skin and hair worse.  Choose the method which irritates the area the least. You may have to experiment with a few hair removal methods over time but you should eventually find one that works.

Exfoliate, cleanse and moisturize every single day with a scrub glove or exfoliation brush.
Be gentle and use a good quality soap. Lather the soap in the glove and gently scrub the area. Do this every day until the bumps subside. Apply a light moisturizer or ingrown hair serum after.

Now What?

You are probably reading this article because you already have done the damage and want to know how to get rid of Scars from ingrown hair.  It won’t be easy and you may only get a slight reduction in scaring but the end results might be worth it.

Natural Scar Remedies you might find in your kitchen

•Massage olive oil over the scar. Olive oil is rich in vitamins E and K, which will help in getting your scars to fade quickly. Virgin olive oil is particularly high in antioxidants and has a higher acidity level, which helps to lighten the scars.
Rub a little bit on to the scar and massage into it for 10 minutes.

•Raw honey is a natural moisturizer. It can be effective in the treatment of wounds and stimulates tissue regeneration. It can also be used to fade scars.
Mix 2 tbsp. of raw honey with 2 tbsp. of baking soda
Massage for 3 minutes and wipe clean.

•Apply lemon juice to the scar. Lemons contain alpha-hydroxy acids(AHA) which help to remove dead skin cells, help new cells grow. It can help lighten scars.
Put 1 teaspoon of lemon juice on a cotton ball
Rub the cotton ball on the scarred area
Let it sit for about 10 minutes and then rinse it off
